Do like sitting on the bench for the whole game? Take this for an example, you got a C- of your math test and you can’t play for your basketball team. For 4 years Jimmy Garoppolo sat on the bench waiting for Tom Brady to get injured. Jimmy was the backup Quarterback for the New England Patriots, but later got traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2018. The trade has been getting a lot of debate on whether it was worth it or not.

The Trade

Jimmy Garoppolo get traded to the SF 49ers. Garoppolo, the second-round pick in 2014, is in the final year of his contract. By acquiring him now, San Francisco gets a head start on

negotiating a long-term deal to keep him or can use the franchise tag on him in free agency. Its ok, I barely understand any of these words either. What does this mean for the Patriots? New England has shipped away the passer who started two games in Brady’s absence early in 2016, keeping him on the roster to backup the former two-time league MVP.

Worth It or Not

There is a lot of debate on if this trade was worth it or not.

Is because before Blaine Gabbert was the quarterback. Also, Jimmy Garoppolo has been leading the 49ers to 7 wins so far in the season. The reason this was a good trade for Jimmy Garoppolo is, because he is getting a lot more playing time than before. Before he was always sitting on the bench until a couple weeks ago.

7-0 !!

Jimmy has won all four of his starts for San Francisco and his 1,250 yard passing are the most by any player in his first four starts for a franchise. So, he has already helped the 49ers make a bit of history for the NFL’s best in-season turnaround. Currently, the 49ers record is 7-0!! “We’ve got a long way to go, we better keep getting better,” says Head Coach Kyle Shanahan.

So, next time you cheer for your favorite football team, make sure to think about all the people that are sitting on the bench and not getting playing time.

Fun Fact!

Before passing the ball Jimmy always puts his left hand next to the ball.

In my opinion I think it was worth it but, not just because I LOVE Jimmy G, but other reasons too. The reasons people say this was a bad trade for the Patriots are because Jimmy Garoppolo is a very good quarterback and when Tom Brady gets hurt he will fill in. Now, It’s Brian Hoyer. The reasons this was a good trade for the 49ers.
