True Blue Review

By Willa Tise

True Blue By Jane Smiley

The book True Blue is about a girl named Abby Lovitt and a mysterious horse she buys named True Blue. When Abby goes to visit a friends stable she sees Blue, not paying attention to Blue’s history she buys him.

Blue seems like the perfect horse, until Abby starts watching him more closely and realizing that occasionally he perks his ears up and seems to be looking for someone that’s not there. Then Abby learns that Blue’s owner was killed in a tragic car accident, right when she arrived at the stable. Now Abby starts to wonder, what was Blue’s owner like?, and what are those quiet whispers she hears when she’s around Blue? Now, even Abby’s father is realizing that this horse, may be haunted by the spirit of his owner.

I recieved this book as a birthday present, hesitant to read it because I had tried Jane Smiley’s other books and not had any luck with them. Jane has a very special kind of writing that you can only find in her books. I think True Blue was written very well from a very good point of view and I highly reccomend reading this book. Also try Jane Smiley’s other books, The Georges and The Jewles and A Good Horse.
