War Over The Mountains by Ellie Brogan

Chapter 1

“Slap” Stence

Me and my friends were playing Cobblenak in the field by my fathers bakery when I hear a voice say “Tom! Mom wants us to help out at the bakery!” It was my 10 year old sister, Lillian. I rushed over to her before he saw her, but it was too late. “ Awww, does a little baby need a binky?” I hated it when people called Lillian a baby. “She’s not a baby Stence,” I said. Stence came over to me and slapped me in the face so hard that I saw stars. “Sissy,” he said to me, and his goons laughed.

Big thug “Slap” Stence had earned his name because he slapped people who he thought were too weak or were wimps. I was neither, yet he always seemed to hate whatever I do. He also was the son of the mayor, which made him think that he had power over all of us, but he doesn’t.“ just ignore him. “ My mother had said after she saw the plum sized bruise on my face. I can’t seem to tell her that i CAN’T  avoid him. He always seems to know where I am. I think it is sort of strange. My mother is Hungarian along with most of the women in Hungary. My father is french soldier who retired after he met mom. And so I can speak both languages plus English.

We sat down for a dinner of celery and chicken soup when we hear it. A faint whistling in the distance, but we know that sound.

Chapter 2

Run!

“Run!” yelled my father.

“Run! They’re here!” And that was the last I heard from him. No goodbyes, anything. I couldn’t believe that the terrorists are bombing us. We had done nothing to them. My mom yelled to me to get Lillian and get to a safe house. “ But I want Mr. Kuddles!” she screamed. “ If you don’t move, you are going to be smaller than a crumb of monkey bread!” I yelled at her. I grabbed her hand and we all ran. We were almost at the river when there was a sound behind me, I turned around and I saw “Slap” Stence was holding Lillian by the back of her coat and he had a bloody nose and a cut across one cheek. “ Home collapsed. “ he said through a mouthful of blood. “Mom wanted me to get everyone and go to the safe house,” he said, grinning at me. “I am going to hunt down every last person who ever worked for the terrorists and destroy them all!” he yelled.  I knew better than to listen. “Vall de Bull has no Safe house.” I said.

“Now Give me Lilian.”

“No,” Stence said with a smirk.

“ I think She could use a bath.” And he threw her in the River.

“No!” I yelled as I dived after her.

We washed up on the beach near the Santa Cotel warehouse. “ Lilian! You ok?” I asked “I’m Fine. He was right about one thing though,” she said. “What? I DID need a bath!” she laughed.
