I plugged the drive into the USB port. \u201cCome on, come on!\u201d I said to myself quietly.<\/p>\n

\u201cBegining transfer now,\u201d the metallic computer voice said. This better not take long. I have to get out of here as soon as I have all the files. I know I\u2019m going to get caught if I stay. Who knows what they\u2019ll do to me if they find me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would stop that upload if I were you.\u201d<\/p>\n

I spun around to see four heavily armoured assault droids supporting ten armed peacekeepers. The captain leading the massive force aimed his gun at my head as they slowly advanced towards me. \u201cPut your hands up, Smith. It\u2019s all over for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t know what to do. I couldn\u2019t give myself up and surrender. I would be letting everyone down. Our operation\u2019s success and our own survival depended on me getting these files. \u201cWhoa there, Cap, you don\u2019t need your gun! Chill out!\u201d I said, trying to sound cheery.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you trying to be funny?\u201d he yelled as he stepped forward, aiming his pistol at me even more intensely.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I just said, take a chill pill,\u201d I replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake out the flash drive, now!\u201d he commanded.<\/p>\n

\u201cOk, look, I\u2019m taking it out,\u201d I said as I stepped in front of it, shielding it. I rested my hand on it.<\/p>\n

The captain pointed the barrel of his pistol up and down a few times, signaling he wanted me to pull the drive out.<\/p>\n

\u201cTransfer complete.\u201d The metallic computer voice said.<\/p>\n

As soon as the computer said \u201ctransfer complete\u201d, I yanked the drive out and shoved it in my pocket. I bolted off to my right, towards my escape.<\/p>\n

The Captain was unprepared for what I did, but he quickly yelled, \u201cOpen fire!\u201d<\/p>\n

I dove behind a table and sheltered there while hundreds of rounds were being fired at me each second. I stayed hidden behind the table until I came up with a plan of action.<\/p>\n

I slowly stood up, my hands above my head. \u201cHold your fire!\u201d the Captain commanded. The firing stopped. \u201cTurn over the USB.\u201d<\/p>\n

I pulled it out of my pocket. \u201cHere it is,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n

The Captain cautiously walked towards me. \u201cDon\u2019t do anything stupid,\u201d he said. He reached out to take the USB from me.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot so fast. I\u2019ll only give it to you if you let me free once you have it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFine, just give me the drive.\u201d the Captain said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA-a-ah, not just yet. Tell your units to stand down. Make them put their weapons on the floor.\u201d I instructed.<\/p>\n

He turned to his units and told them to stand down. They did what I had requested.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere is the drive.\u201d I dropped it in his hand and dashed away to the exit. I got in my pod and headed back to my squad\u2019s rendezvous point.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s see what he tried to get.\u201d the Captain said. He plugged the drive into the computer. After waiting for a minute, the computer said, \u201cNo information.\u201d in its metallic voice. The Captain screamed as he yanked the USB from the computer and hurled it to the ground and shattered into a million pieces. \u201cGo get him!\u201d he yelled at his soldiers.<\/p>\n

\u201cA very special thank you to my handy-dandy backup flash drive,\u201d I said as I plugged the real USB into my ship\u2019s onboard computer. I watched the screen as all of the files in the Archives appeared. \u201cAnd now, it\u2019s time for a promotion!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
