But here’s the thing, most of the time people set goals that are completely unmanageable.

Things like…I will always be happy! I will keep my house clean everyday! I will never procrastinate!

↑

Come on. Reality check? When our goals aren’t reasonable, it causes extra stress. So, here are some tips:

Be realistic! Don’t make resolutions like the ones listed above, simple goals are best for beginning goal-setters and once you achieve it, make it harder. After all, you can’t climb a mountain without any training.

Prepare what you need. If you don’t have the materials needed to accomplish your resolutions, what’s the point? You can go to the store, or create your own supplies! Make sure to double check that you have everything ready to go, so it’ll be easy-peezy.

Gather information. You need all the resources you can get in order to be extra ready to get to your plans! Find info in books, websites, magazines, and other trusted resources! In other words, knowledge is power!

Measure your progress. Whether it’s days, months, or minutes, keep track of time being spent towards your goals, so you can give yourself plenty of credit. You can also encourage yourself to keep working by rewarding yourself every once in a while.

Have fun! Completing goals should be exciting, and if you don’t want to work on a certain resolution, no one’s making you! Paying attention to even tiny amounts of progress will boost your confidence, and make you feel good!

After learning these tips, making (and sticking to) new year’s resolutions might not be so hard! Remember, you are capable of anything you want to do if you have a thoughtful plan, stay focused, and keep a smile on your face. Stress-free and organized is the way to go!

By Maggie Agyeman, 6th grade newspaper club member.

Realistic Resolutions Not gonna lie, 2020 has been a pretty unpredictable year!
