Is It Too Much?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Chloe gets off the bus. She trips and falls. Stuff comes flying out of her bag. Books to be read, problems to be solved, and stories to be written.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Two hours later Chloe is stumped on English. She doesn\u2019t know what else to say for her feature article. She\u2019s only halfway done. There\u2019s still so much to do in so little time.<\/p>\n

No Fun<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Do you spend up to 2-3 hours on homework? Do you think it\u2019s overwhelming? Some kids do spend up to 2-3 hours on homework. And some kids even more. \u201cI have no time to have fun,\u201d says sixth-grader Ashley Slater.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In Ms. Barker\u2019s 6th grade English class, 85% of students say we have too much homework (in general). Are they right?<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

We Don\u2019t Have Time<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After school most kids have to go to an after-school activity. Some activities last until 7:00 in the evening. Do they have time to even start homework? What about time to play? Shouldn\u2019t kids get to enjoy life while it lasts?<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Studies have shown that children and teenagers need a lot of sleep. If they\u2019re up late doing homework and getting up early to go to school, they do not get enough sleep. \u201cI\u2019m staying up till 11:00pm doing homework,\u201d says Aarushi Aggarwal. As a result children and teenagers tend to get cranky and tired very easily. They aren\u2019t able to focus when it comes to schoolwork.<\/p>\n

Does It Help?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Do we really learn from homework? It seems that students get for homework the work they should be doing in school. Although some assignments are fun, it seem like most of it is torture. If it feels like torture we are likely not learning.<\/p>\n

Is it time for a change? \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Although homework is sometimes useful, it can also be a waste of time. Many students are too busy for homework because of their after-school activities. Students are also too busy for homework because they’re trying to fit in time to sleep. Maybe its time that homework doesn\u2019t become a way of life.<\/p>\n
