Maybe. Although it is fun to listen to, there are patterns in music, like ABAB, ABCA , or different combos. And most of today’s is AAAA, which is sad, the same thing over and over. It gets a little boring.

Older MUSIC IS INFLUENTIAL

In the 1960’s, a very famous and talented band called the Beatles came to America and were very influential on some of today’s artists.

“l like the classic rock as opposed to today’s music” says Brian Reddington, a Wayland Middle School T.A. “A lot of today’s music sounds the same and I find classic rock unique and that it’s timeless!”

Older music was more complex

The music “back in the day” had more harmonies and one composer or sometimes 2 composers! Songs today usually have more than three or four composers and the pieces don’t have as much complexity.

AUTOTUNE

There are other flaws like not singing in tune. Most artists today use something called auto-tune. Auto-tune makes the singer sound in-tune when they can’t get the correct pitch (intonation). And it sounds weird! It sounds non-human and very artificial.

INAPPROPRIATE

Another thing is that songs today are also very inappropriate. Bruno Mars is a very good artist, but one of his hit songs is not very appropriate! “How do I politely say that older music is better?!” says Graeme Robinson, WMS Org Skills Teacher. Lady Gaga isn’t very lady-like in most people’s opinion. Then there is Miley Cyrus; just don’t go there! There are so many things wrong with her music, that some people just don’t know where to start!! She’s very inappropriate with her songs in lyrics and in music videos. She sounds like she’s had voice damage and uses a lot of auto-tune. Thus, 50’s-70’s music is better to listen to and better for you.

 Are the songs getting boring?
