Hi everyone, I’m Sriya! Today I’m going to show you what September 15th is famous for.
September 15th, also known as the start of Hispanic Heritage month, kicks off a celebration to a large population of the United States of America. It makes up almost 20 % of the population here! This date also honors a “El Grito de Delores.” If you don’t know what that means, it was a historic Mexican battle cry from 1812, it marked the start of the war for Mexico’s Independence from Spain. And remember, this whole worldwide celebration is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. You still might be wondering why Hispanic month starts on the 15th, that’s because in most of the places I have listed, their independence day starts on the 15th, 16th, or even 17th. The point is, starting September 15th, it’s the start of Hispanic Heritage month, so have fun and definitely celebrate!
