Winter Sports at WMS

By Elena Sacchetti, Arianna Desai and Becky Berhe

Basketball is a popular winter sport at Wayland Middle School. There are two basketball teams at WMS, a girls basketball team and a boys basketball team. You can get on these teams by trying out for them. Tryouts will be held on December 4th and 5th for boys and 7th and 8th for girls. Tryouts for boys will be on Monday and Tuesday, and for girls tryouts will be held on Thursday and Friday. The coach for the boys team will be Mr.Rivera, and the girls team coach will be Mr. Glavin, a history teacher at the highschool.

If you make the team, you will have practices on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Two of those days you will have games. You also can participate in other things with your team such as team psyche, where you can dress up or do something fun with your teammates.

The other winter sport students play here at the Middle School is hockey. Hockey is perfect for winter, as it is located in an ice rink. For those who play hockey, you will not be having practices, only games. This year, the hockey team will be boys and girls combined. The coaches will be Matthew Cooper and one of the other players’ dads. All games will be located at the NESC in Marlborough. Again, you also have to try out for this sport. The tryouts will be boys and girls together as well.
