Timeless Chapter 6–by Sritha Vemuri

My jaw is dropped down like a hanging cherry blossom. The type my Mom always wanted. The so called boss’s words are stuck in my head. How could that crazy woman, quote quote, once a nice lady’s words, be the boss boss? It made my mind sway like a rocking ship. My question was why would the boss talk about this development near my cell. Maybe this was another trick. Here in the future everything is so complicated. Especially how I am destined to be the one.

“She’s ready.” I hear voices murmur outside my cell as my eyes begin to blink. There is a guard standing inside my cell watching me. It’s as though he has been watching me all night.

“Good you’re awake.” he says, handing me a dress. “Get dressed. You have a big day ahead of yourself.” I stare at him. How could I change if he was right there.

“What?” he asks confused. I cock my head towards the cell door. He doesn’t budge he just sits there. I glare at him. He was an imbecile. An idiot.

“Ahem.” I cough a sound. “I’m about to change.”

“Yes.” he says. “That is what I asked you to do.” I walk up to him.

“Have you noticed something? Or maybe you humans from the future don’t know but we so called pathetic humans like privacy and right now you are invading my privacy by being present while I am about to change.” he blinks as though he is confused. I grunt and suck in as much air as I can.

“Get. OUT!” I yell.

“Jesus Christ.” he says holding onto his left eardrum. “What happened to please and thank you?”

“Well what happened to ‘can you help me’ or ‘please help me’?” I glare at him. “Cause here in this tiny cell my life has been crushed like a bug. Now shoo fly!”
He walks out of the cell but I catch him peeking while he’s outside so I run in the far corner where he can’t see me but as I move I see his brow funnel like he’s upset about it. The thought makes me blush.

Once I’m done changing into my white fancy dress with these small buttons with a white fluffed up bottom that the gentlemen of a guard handed me I walk out of the cell to a surprise kiss being planted on my hands.

“Come.” the guard says. “We must go see the boss.”

“The boss or the boss boss?” I ask. His smile fades away.

“What are you talking about?” he whispers.

“You know what I am talking about idiot.’ I sigh. “You’re just afraid.”

“I am not afraid!” he snaps. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. That’s all.”

“Whatevs.” I say as I continue to walk ahead of him with my bare feet hitting the floor. As soon as the guard notices that I am bare foot he rushes up towards me and cups my feet in his hands, slipping a pair of glass high heels on my feet. I feel like I am Cinderella. I feel like I have won.

I like the guard who watches over my cell. He’s sweet and charming and occasionally supplies me chocolate croissants, biscuits, ice cream, and fruits while no one is watching us. He’s sweet. A week ago when I wore the beautiful white dress he gave me we were going to a fancy banquet where fellow people from the future who were invested in their plan to kill everyone from the past wanted to meet me. They wanted to meet me. I don’t quite understand why being “the one” was so special. I like hangin out with my personal guard though. He’s the best part about being trapped here. I soon learned his name was Daniel but that it was confidential and stuff. I told him my name was Kelly. You can never be too cautious. This night while I was still awake he walked into my cell and plopped down next to me with a bowl of red apples.

“Thanks.” I say.

“Anything,” he says. “for you.” my heart rises and falls and it starts beating fast. My pale skin turning a bright red.

“I have to say this.” he says, ruffling his hair. “It’s crazy but… I love you.” his words hit me like the tip of the iceberg and I fall out of his trance.
“You’re lying. You don’t love me. You’re just acting so I could be the girl who falls for you over my dead dead family but NO! Not this time teen drama. Not this time.” he stands up.

“Kelly, calm down.” he says. “I have to tell you something.” I quiet down.

“My real name is Linc Travis. I married a girl apparently in the future called Bree Sullivan and I was wondering if you knew what cell she was in. That’s why I got close to you. But now I truly love you! I’ll give her up for you. Anything.” he’s on his knees now. I lean forward and it happens fast as I place my lips on his and kiss him, long.
“I am Bree Sullivan,” I say and for the first time I am not ashamed as I lean in for another kiss, as my hair gets eloped in his hands, as we land on my bed in a lying down position.

“And I love you too.”
